Get Ready for the Holidays

I have definitely been neglecting my blog! With Halloween fast approaching comes the reality that soon the holiday season will be upon us. I am sharing one of my recently listed Etsy items that makes a beautiful accent for a bottle of wine or even sparkling cider. Give it as a gift for your holiday parties or use it to dress up your own home.

Friday's Tip

Happy Friday!

Thanks to Pink and Polka Dot for featuring me!

It has been a busy week. I will post a project as I have time. Today I will share a tip for traveling.

If you're like me, when you travel, it can be difficult to be sure that you have everything you need when it comes to the items you use daily to get ready. Here's something I do that helps me:

As I collect them, I put the smaller versions of the items I use daily together in a makeup bag (or a baggie in case of the airlines). I make sure they are 2 oz. or less to comply with the airlines if traveling by air. I put these items along with items such as hair brushes, toothbrushes, curling iron, etc. in a large makeup bag or in my suitcase. A day or two before I leave, I use the items that I have packed for my daily routine. This is a good time to find out if you are missing something instead of when you are ready to enjoy your vacation.

Hope this was helpful. Have a great weekend.

New Computer - New Slip Covers

Finally a chance to add a new post! I had a computer meltdown which led to a new computer and the realization of how much I rely on this technology. Now I just need to learn more about the new features available to me.

Another aspect of my love of all things creative includes decorating. During my husband's poker party last week, I got another perspective on my decorating. I overheard their "manly" discussion and comments of how they liked my decorating. It was good for my ego and also gave me a chance to test my newly made dining room chair slipcovers.

Slipcovers are a fun way to change the look of the room and are easily removed for a quick change. I am attaching a photo for inspiration.

Watch for a new section - Tip of the Week.

New and Improved Wine Bottle Neck Tie

In order to celebrate Earth Week, I decided to make a new and improved wine bottle necktie using a recycled tie. By making some changes to the pattern, I was able to make it simpler to create. I used the lower portion of the tie for this one along with a piece of the tie for the knot. There is plenty of fabric left to make more with a little extra work. The matching tag folds in half and has a plastic pocket for a note card making it reusable.

I would still like to come up with more ideas for men's gifts. Any ideas?

Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Welcome! It's the end of the day and I finally have my blog to the point where I am ready to share it. (That doesn't mean I won't be tweaking it from time to time) I am, after all, somewhat of a perfectionist. Well... here goes!

I found myself home on my own today with my husband traveling and both children away at college. This scenario often gets me thinking (oh, oh!) After a time of considering the difficulties of shopping for men, (Do you agree that men are difficult to buy for?) I started wondering if a necktie would make a nice finishing touch to a gift bottle of wine. With some trial and error, I finally succeeded. I think it turned out quite well for a first try. The party is Friday and my hope is to make a matching birthday label/tag made by that time. If I can manage it, it might be fun to post the pattern/directions on this blog. I am thinking of possibly adding it to my Etsy shop as well.

Well, that wasn't so bad. I hope you enjoyed. I have posted a picture of the finished tie. Let me know what you think.

Have a great night!
